Course

“Excellent! Better value than Cobble with similar scenic views! Will definitely play again!”

There’s a very logical reason this golf club is called Legacy Ridge.

With the natural outcropping adjacent to the property – the ridge – and that fact that an honest-to-goodness, legendary genius of a golf architect gave shape and form to the course – what other name could we go by!

We weren’t always Legacy Ridge. But we’ve always offered great golf!

Legacy Ridge was formerly known as the Owen Sound Golf & Country Club, established in 1920, and we’ve continued to serve the Owen Sound golf community for nearly 100 years.

The Par-71, 18-hole course spans more than 6,200 yards. It was designed by famed golf course architect Stanley Thompson, and it accomplishes the difficult task of appealing to golfers of all skill levels.

The layout forces serious players to push their skills while the scenic vistas from atop the Georgian Cliffs give newcomers breath-taking, relaxing views from Owen Sound.

The consistent, challenging and absolutely gorgeous play of Legacy Ridge brings in golfers from across Ontario. From Barrie, to Guelph, to Wiarton, Sauble Beach, Collingwood and Saugeen Shores – we’re a short drive to one of the best courses in on Southern Georgian Bay!

After your round, plan to relax in our clubhouse. You'll love it as the place to gather with your foursome as you enjoy a cold beverage and try to convince the other three that you were indeed the best golfer on the course!

Thirsty? Our very popular beverage cart girls regularly swing by offering a bevvy of beverage selections.

We give you five playing options –
play as much or as little Legacy Ridge as you’re comfortable with:

Tee Yardage
Gold 6,201
Silver 5,915
Hybrid 5,610
Fusion 5,150
Bronze 4,711

What a write-up!

It’s not often we find such a full and complete— and unsolicited — online appraisal. But this one also offers some insights into playing various holes here. We’re so flattered, we decided to print it in its entirety:

“The original Owen Sound Golf & Country Club was a nine hole design by Stanley Thompson. It was expanded to 18 holes in 1975 with perhaps two of the holes remaining as Thompson's original design. During your course of play you'll notice that the greens on the front nine are larger than the back although the speed and contours are very comparable.

“Legacy Ridge has some tight fairways and most are bordered by mature trees. I found the front to be tighter than the back. You can feel Stanley Thompson's influence on the Par-3's as he usually selected the location to build these holes first.

“I got fooled on the Par-5 Number 5 as I normally would go for the green in two but I had an uphill lie such that I though I wouldn't be able to achieve the distance. I laid up with a 5 iron. Wrong! A ditch crossing the fairway at my layup distance collected my ball. So much for having a yardage book and not using it.

“The Par-3 Number 8 has a severely elevated tee; it’s difficult to judge club distance.

“The one hole on the course that doesn't fit well is the Par-4 9th. It feels tight off the tee although it is quite short at just over 300 yards.

“Hole #11 is a sharp dogleg left with an uphill climb to the green. You'll need to hit a good tee shot to the bend to have any hope of making par.

Hole 17.jpg

“The 18th finishes right alongside the clubhouse where patrons can closely watch the closing hole.

“On course I could only find 150 yard markers. Signage at each tee box was top notch.

“The bunkers are very firm but both the greens, fairways, and rough were all in great shape.

“Legacy Ridge feels like it played longer than the scorecard indicated. I'm not sure this feeling was brought on by the milder weather, the lies I was encountering, or me.”

“Legacy Ridge is a worthy play!”
